Adaptive Composites

Thrust Area 2: Sea Cucumber, Squid Beak, Pine Cone Inspired Adaptive Composites

Research Thrust Area 2

Our Goals

Develop new bio-inspired, mechanically adaptive materials that will have applications as active implants and deployable 3D structures, inspired by the sea cucumber’s skin, squid beak and pine cone.

Please Note:  the efforts of this Thrust area have been shifted to non-NSF funded in vivo work. Materials innovations from this Thrust are now being translated to soft robotic development in Thrust 5.
