The combined Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics/Dietetic Internship (MS/DI) at the University of Delaware is a 39 credit program that is designed to be completed in a two year span. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (MS/DI) and is a great opportunity for students that wish to broaden their horizons in the fields of nutrition and dietetics. Students in the program are provided the resources to increase their knowledge of food and nutrition science, and to acquire competencies needed to practice dietetics in a variety of settings. Upon successful completion of the program, each student will also receive a verification of completion certificate and be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians. After successfully completing the program and passing the RD exam, students are expected to pursue entry-level roles in clinical and community dietetic roles.

Having a Masters in Dietetics and Nutrition, as well as internship experience, is especially crucial for anyone pursuing a career as an RD in the near future. The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) has passed a new rule, effective January 1, 2024, that states that an individual must have a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).

Due to the intensity of this program, the selection process for candidates is highly competitive. Interested applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics and/or Nutrition and a Verification Statement from an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) with a minimum undergraduate GPA of a 3.0 (on a 4-point scale). Verbal and Quantatitive GRE scores should be in the  ≥50th percentile within the past 5 years and a Medical Nutrition Therapy course is to be completed no more than 4 years prior to application.
