Currently, the major I am interested in is Health Behavior Science. The Health Behavior Science major explores and studies how human actions, cognitions, communications, and environment affect health, chronic disease, relationships and quality of life across the lifespan. More specifically they work to promote healthy lifestyles through education, assessing needs, counseling and coaching individuals, developing and implementing programs, policy change, creating media and materials, and evaluating the impact and outcome of their efforts. The top three careers that I am interested in pursuing are Personal Training, Athletic Training, and Athletic Director. All three of these careers directly connect to my intended major and my skill set in the health field.
Personal Trainers help people reach their finiteness goals through personalized fitness plans based on the individuals fitness goals. This implemented plan would cardio, strength training, aerobic exercise, etc. Personal Trainers educate their clients on proper technique and nutrition to ensure that their clients continue to live healthy lifestyles.I can easily relate because I am big into the fitness lifestyle. I have educated myself with fitness magazines and have learned to create fitness plans and routines through learning and experience. Personal Training directly correlates with my intended major.
Athletic Training focuses more on rehabilitation. The Athletic Trainers job is to make sure that athletes are performing at 100% capacity. They help athletes recover from injuries so they can get back to plying again. Throughout the rehabilitation process Athletic Trainers must educate their clients on how to speed up recovery and also on preventative measures so there is less of a chance of a reoccurring injury.
The job of the Athletic Director is a little less engaged and involves mostly planning. Athletic Directors are responsible for planning and scheduling sporting events with other schools. They also oversee the entire coaching staff. Athletic Directors are administrators of the sports world, taking more of a leadership position. One of my skill sets happens to be leadership. I currently have several platforms and arenas in which I am called to take a leadership role, so I would definitely be able to connect with Athletic Directing within my major.
As you can see, my intended major and career goals line up exceptionally well with the skills and interests I posses. Health Behavior Science seems like the right major for me due to the fact that it has many different job opportunities available such as the three job opportunities list above.
