On Friday, April 5th, 2013, we will have the unique opportunity to see a bridge replacement using Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS) technology.
GRS is an engineered fill of closely spaced alternating layers of compacted granular fill material and geosynthetic reinforcement.
The IBS is a fast, cost-effective method of bridge support that blends the roadway into the superstructure using GRS technology. (Hence the reason for the short notice!)
We will meet behind DuPont Hall for a 8:45am departure, and expect to return around 11am. The trip is limited to SIX students, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required! Students with steel toe boots will be able to get an even closer look.
