Our Team

Aimee Jaramillo-Lambert, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware. My lab is interested in all aspects of sexual reproduction, but we currently have two research focuses: sex differences in chromosome shape and separation during the meiotic cell cycle and sperm contributions to egg activation events after fertilization. We use the awesome power of the nematode, C. elegans, to answer reproductive questions.

I am also passionate about teaching both in the classroom and in the laboratory. I mainly teach BISC303 Genetics but have also taught additional undergraduate courses (BISC207 Introductory Biology I, and BISC400 Special Topics Seminar: Chromosome Structure and Function) and a graduate course (BISC654 Biochemical Genetics). Another passion of mine is promoting the advancement of young scientists in STEM. I am a faculty advisor for the UD Chapter of SACNAS and serve on the several committees of the Department of Biological Sciences and the Genetics Society of America.

Outside of UD, I enjoy running and spending time with my family, dogs, cats, and toad.

Current Lab Members

Peggy Nagorski

Limited Term Researcher

Hello! My name is Peggy and I am a limited term researcher in the Jaramillo-Lambert lab. I support every day lab functioning and am assisting Darline in her research of characterizing the interactions of the proteins SPSP-1 and SPE-11. Outside of the lab, I enjoy exploring new things and places with my husband and 4 sons, as well as refinishing furniture and DIY projects around our house.

    Carrie Remsburg

    Post-doctoral Researcher

My name is Carrie Remsburg, and I am a post-doctoral researcher in the Jaramillo-Lambert lab. I will be studying chromosome structure during meiosis, including how histone methyltransferases MET-2 and SET-25 regulate chromosome compaction. I am passionate about science and science communication, and love telling people all about the cool things we can learn using simple model organisms to understand more complex processes! In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband and three daughters, knitting and eating ice cream.

    Kent Ji Kwah

    Post-doctoral Researcher

Heyo! My name is Kent and I am a post-doctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Jaramillo-Lambert. I am from Malaysia and I completed my Ph.D./M.B.A. degrees at the University of Delaware and my B.S. in Biotechnology at Montana State University. My project focuses on the interaction between two proteins in C. elegans that are involved in proper development of the eggshell and the embryo post fertilization. Outside of the lab, I’m an Ultimate frisbee player, casual latin dancer, and I love to cook!

      Shannon Pfeiffer

Ph.D. Student, Biological Sciences with a concentration in Molecular Biology & Genetics

Hi! I’m Shannon, and I am a Ph.D. student in the Jaramillo-Lambert Lab. I first began working in the lab as an undergrad here at UD, where I discovered my love for research (and worms)! My project focuses on studying how the cell-cycle regulator WEE-1.3 plays a role in C. elegans spermatogenesis.

        Rachel Hexamer

Ph.D. Student, Biological Sciences with a concentration in Molecular Biology & Genetics

Hi, my name is Rachel, and I am a PhD student in the Jaramillo-Lambert lab! I attended Pensacola Christian College in Florida before returning home to Delaware for grad school. I am studying the requirements for fertilization-competent gametes, focusing on the role of nucleosome remodeling factor NURF-1 in gamete quality. In my free time, I enjoy running, reading, and playing flute and piano.

          Mya Fillion

Ph.D. Student, Biological Sciences with a concentration in Molecular Biology & Genetics

Hello! My name is Mya, and I am a PhD student in the Jaramillo-Lambert lab! My research is focused on the role TOP-2 plays in chromosome structure and recombination during meiosis. I am originally from Massachusetts, where I got my MS in Lab Management. And I got my BS in Genetics from the University of New Hampshire. In my free time I like to cook, bake, watch football, and play with my miniature dachshund, Bean!

            Sydney Bradley

            Undergraduate Student, Biological Sciences

Hi! My name is Sydney Bradley and I am a sophomore undergraduate student majoring in biology and minoring in genetic counseling. I am currently helping to investigate the interaction between TOP2 and MET2 in determining chromosome structure. On campus I am involved in a Christian organization called Cru and in my free time I like to read and spend time outdoors.

              Victoria Lingo

              Undergraduate Student, Human Physiology

Hi! I am a Human Physiology Major from Lewes, DE. I wanted to start participating in research to learn new things and develop experience in the lab. I am on the UD Figure Skating team, and in my free time I like to read and spend time with my friends.

                Tyler Vanson

                Undergraduate Student, Biological Sciences

My name is Tyler and I’m an undergraduate researcher and biological science major. I’m currently helping Shannon with her project on studying the role WEE-1.3 has in C. elegans spermatogenesis. In my free time, I volunteer as an EMT and play tennis.

                  Kristine Osinuga

Undergraduate Student, Neuroscience and Liberal Studies

Hello! My name is Kristine Osinuga, I am a current senior Neuroscience and Liberal Studies: Medical Scholars major. I am currently helping to investigate the proteins, SPSP-1 and SPE-11. I am excited to continue learning about sex differences in chromosome shape and separation during the meiotic cell cycle using C.elegans. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies and cooking new dishes.

                    Mst. Gitika Khanom

                    Volunteer Researcher

Hey! This is Gitika, and I am a volunteer researcher in Dr. Jaramillo-Lambert’s lab. I completed my M.S. and B.S. degrees in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at Islamic University, Bangladesh. Currently, I am shadowing Dr. Kent and assisting with his project, which focuses on the interaction between two proteins in C. elegans that are involved in the proper development of the eggshell and the embryo post-fertilization. Outside of the lab, I love spending time with my family.
