Phillip Taylor

Bio: Phillip grew up in Cascade, Trinidad and Tobago and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) from the University of Pennsylvania. While pursuing his bachelor’s degree, he double majored in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) and Economics with a minor in Mathematics. His prior research at the University of Pennsylvania was focused on using biophysics in tandem with atomistic and coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to study the molecular mechanisms and proteins underpinning a cellular process called endocytosis – a process in which cells internalize proteins and other cargo. Currently, he is a co-advised student in the Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program at the University of Delaware where is he working under the advisement of both Dr. April Kloxin and Dr. Arthi Jayaraman.

Research Interests: Phillip is working to develop molecular models of thermoresponsive biomaterials such as collagen mimetic peptides (CMP) and elastin-like peptides (ELP) with the goal of using these atomistic and coarse-grained models along with molecular simulations to design robust and dynamic materials for 3D cell culture models and on-demand drug delivery systems.

Fun Facts: In his free time, Phillip loves to watch movies, play video games, and enjoys playing his guitar.
