WILLIAM M. LAFFERTY
William M. Lafferty is a partner in the Wilmington, Delaware law firm of Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP. Mr. Lafferty’s practice involves corporate and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on cases involving mergers and acquisitions, proxy contests and consent solicitations, and shareholder class and derivative actions. Mr. Lafferty’s litigation practice is concentrated on cases pending in the Delaware Court of Chancery and Supreme Court. Mr. Lafferty also advises corporate clients and boards of directors with respect to litigation and transactional matters, including representations of special negotiating committees and special litigation committees.
Mr. Lafferty is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association’s Corporation Law Section and Committee on Professional Ethics. He is also a member of the American Bar Association Business Law Section Committee on Business and Corporate Litigation. Mr. Lafferty recently was elected as a Fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Lafferty currently serves on the Court of Chancery Rules Committee, and previously served two terms on the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners and one term as Chair of the Delaware Commission on Continuing Legal Education (both positions appointed by the Delaware Supreme Court). Mr. Lafferty also has been appointed by the Delaware Court of Chancery to serve as a Special Master. Mr. Lafferty has published a number of articles and contributed chapters on appraisal rights and inspection of corporate/partnership books and records to a five volume corporate law treatise.
Mr. Lafferty received a B.S. from the University of Delaware in 1985 and a J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law in 1989. Mr. Lafferty served as law clerk to The Honorable Maurice A. Hartnett, III of the Delaware Court of Chancery (1989-90).
