Fair Hill International Internship

Fair Hill International (FHI) has been hosting horse trials since 1998, with a range of events from unrecognized Introductory level trials to CCI** and CCI*** three day events that qualify competitors for the Olympics.  Three Starter Trials and three Recognized Horse Trials are offered every year attracting riders and horses from all over the world.

The Fair Hill International Internship offers aspiring equine professionals hands-on experience in the behind-the-scenes details in organizing and running horse trails at the local and international level, as well as the opportunity to work alongside top equestrian event organizers and competitors.

Fall Intern Job Description:  Responsibilities could include:
Working on CIC3* Fall Eventing Championship October 12 – 15
During the competition:
In barns – vet scribe, move in teams
Show jump jog
YEH confirmation and scribe/runner
XC:  vet box, flagging, mapping, roping, decorating, course walk with designer
Dressage – set up and take down
Show Jump – catalogue jumps, set-up, decorate, course walk with designer

Sponsorship, Advertising, and Vendors
Contact local businesses for advertising possibilities
Organize sponsor deliverables – banners, social media ad count, tickets, etc
Decorate official hotel lobby to welcome officials, competitors, and spectators
Competitor swag bags – help with organization
Volunteer swag bags – solicit donations from local businesses
Awards: organization, tracking winners, ceremonies, prize distribution

Officials
Create books with all event info – schedules, hospitality, directions, etc
Coordinate and distribute credentials
Coordinate travel, shuttles, hotel rooms – all aspects of door to door service

Operations
Golf cart logistics
Overall planning of what goes where – tents, water, generators, portapots, etc
Coordinating arrival of all items and assisting in proper placement

Hospitality
VIP tent – decorating/hosting
Fair Hill Club – decorating/hosting
Tailgating and Lawn Boxes

Special Events
Assist in coordination and scheduling
Interface with program production and social media scheduling

Marketing/Social Media/Press Tent:  depending on major/interest/experience of intern
Assisting in press tent to
Instagram account manager

Volunteer Management and Appreciation
Pre-event planning – responding to all volunteer inquiries
Coordinating Volunteer Hospitality – lunches, munchies in tent
Volunteer Swag Bags – soliciting donations from local businesses

Location:  Fair Hill International is based in Fair Hill, Maryland, located less than 10 miles from Newark.

Candidate Qualifications: Candidates are NOT required to have eventing experience
Enthusiasm for the equine industry
Interest in learning about the competitive world of eventing
Ability to manage time, and work independently or in a team
Good communication skills
Willingness to work in all weather conditions

Schedule:  For each credit, students are expected to complete 40 hours of internship work. Hours will depend on specific duties and events, and will be arranged in collaboration with the internship supervisor.

Compensation:  Students will receive a stipend of $500 for each credit (40 hours)
