Volunteers for Intercultural and Definitive Adventures- VIDA

Interested in human medicine, dentistry, nursing, or veterinary medicine?
VIDA (Volunteers for Intercultural and Definitive Adventures) is a non-profit humanitarian volunteer organization whose mission is to provide sustained veterinary, medical, and dental health care to underserved communities in Latin America. Our goal is to promote global health awareness and provide hands-on educational opportunities for  students. We plan various trips and events, actively fundraise, bring in guest speakers, and work with professionals in each field.  We even send our donations to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala!

If you’re interested in traveling abroad to Latin America to gain hands-on professional experience, VIDA is perfect for you! Students work in small groups with a translator and a native veterinarian/physician/dentist. The medical team sets up a mobile clinic, performs full physical exams and collects patient history information. Not only do you learn about diseases and illnesses, but you’ll be able to suggest diagnoses and treatment! The veterinary team students perform full physical examinations, administers vaccinations and medication, and heavily assist in spay/neuter surgeries. The dental students are able to provide oral examinations, teeth cleaning services, and even perform dental extractions!

Don’t worry- it’s not all work! You have three recreation days and get to explore the natural beauties of Central America and visit hot springs, beaches, lagoons, and jungles. You might even get to go ziplining on Mt. Mombacho! It is a really valuable multicultural experience that is great if you have an interest in global health, or just want a new clinical setting other than an American hospital. Not to mention, it’s a great resume booster for those of you need more experience!

Come out and meet us October 1 at 8:00 in Memorial Hall 110 or email vida.udel@gmail.com for more information!

We hope to see you there!
