UDon’t Need It Student Move Out Project

The UDon’t Need It? Student Move Out Project (UDNI) celebrates its 6th year in 2012, and will take place from May 21 through June 2. Sponsored by UD and the City of Newark, the UDNI Student Move Out Project offers UD students an opportunity to help our environment while helping others in our community.

Since 2007, the UDNI project has made a real difference by:

–Keeping more than 500 tons of materials out of local landfills, thanks to donations of reusable items and the directed disposal and recycling efforts through the project period;

–Helping over 200 families through our network of local charitable organizations by redirecting donated furniture and household goods to families in need;

–Donating more than 2,500 pounds of nonperishable foods to project partner Food Bank of Delaware;

–Donating over 7,000 pounds of clothing, shoes and bedding materials to local charities.

To ensure the success of this year’s project, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Because this project is congruent with the University’s sustainability initiatives, I have been authorized to tell you that UD employees who wish to volunteer their time during working hours are allowed to do so, with the following considerations:

1) that the employee alerts his/her supervisor/administrator of his/her desire to participate in the project and receives approval in advance;

2) that administrators and employees understand that participation in this project does not require the use of personal vacation time.

The site will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 21, 22, 23    and 24,

and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31 and June 1.

(The site is closed on Memorial Day, May 28.)  We will have our final sale day on Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Please contact me directly at 831-8498 or mcdeb@udel.edu if you would like to volunteer. We will accept volunteers on a first- come, first-served basis until all slots are filled.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this important project!
