Buyer – Vegetable Seed

About the Job
Based in our Corporate Headquarters in Richmond, VA, you will coordinate and supervise the performance of all functions involved in operating a central vegetable seed service serving the entire Southern States Cooperative (SSC) operating territory. Ideal candidate will have agricultural/business experience with strong communication and organizational skills.
Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in the Agronomy or Business Management field
 Two years experience in agriculture industry
 Background in vegetable seed within a retail or wholesale environment preferred
 Knowledge of vegetable seed varieties, basic agronomy and agriculture
 Ability to learn buying processes and procedures
 MS Office skills with intermediate knowledge of Excel
 Effective communication, organizational, multi-tasking and analytical skills
 Ability to analyze sales and margin data
 Valid Drivers License – Satisfactory Driving Record
 Able to climb, stoop, bend, reach and crawl on a frequent basis
 Able to lift up to 50 lbs
 Able to pass drug screen and background check

Responsibilities:

 Responsible for purchasing, scheduling, expediting, receiving, warehousing, packaging and shipping of vegetable seed to all dealers
 Purchase seed potatoes and onion sets
 Ensure proper quality controls are met with the packaging and distribution of SSC brand vegetable seed to minimize damage to seed products
 Maintains dealer relations and investigates complaints for all stores
 Works with Logistics department to schedule and pool shipments
 Responsible for dealer pricing and wholesale margins of vegetable seed
 Maintain pricing and product information on company intranet
 Analyze seed and market data to meet current and future purchasing requirements and advise on inventory position
