There is a particularly virulent phishing scam out there, targeting Netflix users. Here’s how it works:

So, you get email that appears to come from Netflix, claiming that something is wrong with your account payments. Your immediate reaction is going to be to leap to fix the problem so you can finish watching The Crown or Godless, or whatever you’re binge-watching.

Do not click the link in the email! Log in to your account at netflix.com to see if there is a problem. Your account is probably just fine.

As Sophos.com points out in a recent article about this Netflix phishing scam, a lot of brands are getting hijacked by scams like this one.

What’s unusual about this particular Netflix phishing campaign is the effort to which the scammers have gone to fake you out — they ask for account information, but also for a picture of your credit card AND of your smiling face — and even include help files to make it easier for you to surrender your personal information to these fraudsters!

If you get email about a problem with your account at any vendor, don’t click the links; instead log in to your account at the vendor’s website, using a URL you know and trust.
