We’ve received a report of a classic phish; hopefully users would not fall for this scam, but it’s a good opportunity to review some common signs of a phishy email.

The email is quoted below:

Phishy email

First, the subject line of “ALERT!!” is classic phishy alarmism; scammers like to use frightening language, exclamation points, and capital letters to promote a sense of urgency. A victim who’s panicking about the email may not think twice before clicking suspicious links. Speaking of links, the link needed to “complete verification” is obviously not an official University url. Neither of the email addresses are from a UD domain; the second address may have “UDel” in it, but official University email addresses end in “@udel.edu”—not “@clear.net.nz.”

If you see this email, just delete it. And remember: Think B4 U Click!
