The University of Delaware community is invited to learn about several new Sakai features that support teaching and learning, review effective use of existing Sakai tools and explore an alternative learning management system, Instructure Canvas, at Learning Management System Day, Thursday, June 21, in Room 010 Smith Hall.
Short sessions at 9:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. will focus on new Sakai tools:
- Gradebook 2 adds new functionality that lets faculty post students’ grades where the lowest score in a category has been excluded or extra credit has been added. Using this tool will also allow instructors to send Sakai final grades directly to UDSIS.
- Lessons is a new tool in Sakai that provides a way to structure content (i.e. by unit, week). It includes the ability to link to quizzes, and assignments, add multimedia, resources, subpages, a forum topic, comments, even a section where students can create their own pages.
At noon, there will be a demonstration of Canvas, a cloud-based learning management system, being piloted this fall.
From 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. IT Client Support and Services staff will be available to help faculty discover new ways that the features of these systems can best fit their pedagogical goals.
No registration is required. Those who are interested can drop in to Smith Hall as they please throughout the day.
