To the University Community,
I am honored and profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve as Acting President of UD. I came to the University in 1984, and I am deeply committed to this institution, its people and our entire state.
In this role, my primary task is to maintain the momentum that President Patrick Harker created during his eight years with us. He positioned us well in a very dynamic landscape so that we can embrace the opportunities ahead. The Delaware Will Shine initiative will help guide our path. I’ll rely on the same goals I’ve long pursued as Dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment: Inspire and transform our students; undertake scholarship that enhances basic understanding and/or fosters solutions to societal challenges; and partner with communities at all levels and across all sectors.
Ultimately, I want to make sure UD is ready to welcome its next president and poised to take another leap forward under his or her leadership. Be assured that the work of the Presidential Search Committee is well underway.
In several weeks, we’ll welcome the Class of 2019 to campus. I’ve already met many of them at New Student Orientation, and I can tell you that they’re as excited to be coming as we are to have them.
During this transition time, I want to hear from you — your suggestions, your concerns, your questions. By email, the best way to reach me is at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m also on Twitter @NancyMTargett.
Again, I’m thrilled to be working with all of you in this new role. Together we’ll keep moving UD forward and preparing to write the next chapter of our history.
