On Saturday, February 16, 2013, the Office of Residence Life will host the inaugural MLK Day of Service to honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the significance of the national day of service. Traditionally, the national MLK Day of Service is held in January. However, in consideration of the University’s Winter Session, the Office of Residence Life has decided to observe this day of service in February, during the spring semester.
The day will begin in the Trabant Student Center Multipurpose Room C at 8:30am for a Send-Off Ceremony featuring speakers José-Luis Riera, Associate Dean of Students and Raheemah M. Jabbar-Bey, Assistant Professor in the Center for Community Research and Service. Next, volunteers will be transported to local non-profit organizations to serve the community from 10am-3:30pm. Finally, volunteers will be dropped off at the Trabant Student Center Multipurpose Room C at 4pm for a closing Breakout Session, culminating the day by sharing their experiences and celebrating service.
The Office of Residence Life hopes you will join us on MLK Day of Service. For more information please read the service project descriptions and then sign up!
