Informal Interview

For my informal interview I looked up a video of a women being interviewed. Her job title was a financial analyst. When asked what her primary duties were she responded that she had to reconcile accounts, implement annual systems, and review accounts. She also states that she had to deal with many global costumers; she had to do report and produce costumer service to those global costumers. Also her job required her to liaise between the technology department and the operation departments. The next question asked was the type of personality traits are looked for in a financial analyst, the woman responded that a financial analyst would have to be very detailed orientated but more importantly organized. She truly stressed how important organization is; even saying that it is “fundamental in this type of job”. Continuing, she was asked some skills that a financial analyst would need for the job and her first response was technology. The job requires extensive training in programs such as excel, she states that an analyst could have to work with excel daily in this job. Along with excel a lot of other programs are used t makes things such as tables and charts which are essential to the job. Finally the woman was asked how to become a successful financial analyst, she reposed that one would have to be very involved in the job. By that she meant that it would involve a lot of time that would include extra hours that would need to be put in along with extra effort. One would need to show that they are interested in their job; they need to keep an open mind, not just focus on what they have to do help others and be involved with other positions.

Career Plan

As of now my career plan is very flexible, I am still on the fence about some of the more specific ideas and plans but I believe I have somewhat of an overview on how I hope for it to go. Some of the plans I have is to hopefully find a job in my career shortly after I graduate if not during my final years of college. I figure the quicker I get into my career the more experience I have the opportunity to gain. I understand that my first job might not exactly be my ideal job but I know I am going to have to work my way up even if that means starting from the bottom. I am aware that although I would have completed by degree and would be competing with others whom has their degree but quite possibly much more experience. Within a couple years of graduating and having my first job in my career I would hope to move up in positions even if that involves moving companies because my initial goal is to gain that experience that I obviously wouldn’t of had a lot of coming right out of college but after working for maybe 2-3 years I could find something better. I would hope by then to find a stable job which I couldn’t stay at for a good maybe 10 years or even more. It would be a job in which I could grow to love the environment, the people, and even the pay more and more as time passes. By that time I would maybe be in my 30’s and hopefully find a way to help people, I want to be settled enough in my job and life to be able to expand my activities into helping others a much as I possibly could.

Dream Job

My dream job would be to work as a pediatrician in a small doctor’s office in a small town like where I live Middletown, Delaware. My duties would just be to see patience throughout the day mostly families and b working in a small town there would be the same families so I would have the opportunity to get to know each and every family and not have so many patients that I can’t remember them. My dream salary would be to make over $100,000 dollars a year or more if possible. I want enough money to be able to support myself and by independent and of course some extra money to do as I wish wouldn’t hurt, Although I do prefer to have a job that is moving around a lot and not as much office work I feel as though a doctor would have a good balance. I could move around while working with patients and working with the nurses and receptionists around me but I would also be able to sit down by myself and do some paper work which I think is a good balance between working with people and working alone. I think that having some time to work alone is always helpful especially on rough days being surrounded by people all day can be a frustrating experience. I honestly would enjoy have a traditional 9-5 work day so I can plan the rest of my day accordingly. I love the idea of only having the work during the week days and I would get to have my weekends to do as I would wish even spend it with family if that’s possible. As for a dream company I am not too picky I just would love to work in a friendly environment with not too many people that I wouldn’t know half of the people whom work there but not too small that I know everything about everyone. A dream job is something that everyone strives for but as for right now I am still trying to figure out what that, this is just some ideas on how I think I would feel but honestly I am not still unsure if being a doctor is right for me or anything in the medical field.

Major and Career Goals

I believe that my skill sets would include my people skills; I also tend to excel in subjects such as math and history. I also believe that a strong skill of mine would be the fact that I can easily talk to people and relate to them. Considering with my current job working with children I am constantly communicating with people throughout the day and I believe that has greatly improved my communication skills in general. Well I am looking at a career possibly in the medical field after looking at the results of the “Strong Interest Inventory” so that means that I would possibly need to work on my math and more importantly science, more specifically anatomy perhaps. I believe I can strengthen my science skills by taking more science courses when I transition up onto main campus and be able to explore more of the sciences that they offer. My weaknesses would include public speaking, writing, and leadership skills. I think that the weaknesses that I mentioned are ones that in order to improve on I just need to work on them more. I do not have a lot of experience with public speaking and leadership skills so I feel as though if I was given the opportunity to develop those skills they would no longer be as much of a problem as I feel that they are now. I believe that if I do end up pursuing a career in the medical field I would get the opportunity to further develop all of my skills in different ways. Although I feel as though I have good communication skills I feel as though a career in medical will only strengthen those skills. Not only will some skills be strengthened but I will hopefully get the ability to develop new skills in which I have never got to explore.

Job You Love or Money

The question “Is it better to study what you love or what you think will get you a job?” is actually something that I am struggling with now at this point of my life. I am undeclared at the moment and as soon as I mention that I do not yet have a major everyone starts naming suggestions on what I study and do with my life. I understand that they mean well and are trying to help however every suggestion is something well-paying and honestly in my opinion sounds boring. When I explain I really am not sure what I want to do most people’s response is always the same, pick a major that you can make a lot of money in. These jobs that everyone mentions just don’t interest me, it makes me think if I am sometimes just being too picky and I should just pick something that makes a lot of money and go on like that and hope I grow to love it. After all that, I remember that it is my life. I always ask myself do I really want to spend the rest of my life doing something I absolutely despise just because I am making a decent amount of money and it would make everyone happy? Do I want to dread going to work every single day for the rest of my life?
Also it comes to mind that it all depends on what a person describes as a lot of money? What might be enough for me to live comfortably and be happy could be a totally different amount for another person. I want to make enough money so I am able to live comfortably and independent and I think that most jobs are able to offer that at the least, obviously it may not be my first job in that field but after hard work doing something I love there is always the possibility of getting more money in the future.
I wish to find a major that can have somewhat of a balance in. I know it sounds crazy and probably far-fetched, a job making a decent amount of money and something that I truly am interested in. I do hope that I will find a job that I love over money, because I do not want to become one of those people who hate their jobs for the rest of their lives. I know that most people claim that money is what makes people happy but I don’t think I am willing to be miserable every day at my job just looking forward to the paycheck I am only going to get maybe, every other week. I am hoping that I am will continue to study a major that I love and look into the long run of things I would live a better happier and more fulfilling life doing what I love simply because I love it without looking too much into it.
