Walt Disney Interview

On the above url link, is a former disney employee being interviewed for his work at Walt Disney World as a Custodian.  The gentleman is asked what the interview process was like upon being hired by Disney World.  And how he would, as a custodian, make a guests day magical.  I believe this interview will put me in the proper mindset for when I go to apply to work with Disney.

During the interview, the gentleman looked calm and confident when he was speaking.  He didn’t hesitate to answer any of the questions that were asked of him.  He was making good contact with the interviewer and wasn’t looking around or fidgeting with anything as he spoke.  He also restated the question he was answering so that he would stay on track, I believe, and not answer something that was not asked or related to what was asked in the first place.

Post-interview Report

Just moments before the interview was started, there were a lot of nerves going through me.  I am not comfortable asking and answering questions one-on-one.  To me, it feels like I am speaking in front of an audience, which I have never been confident about.

After the interview started, the nerves started to slowly disappear and I was more comfortable with the questions being asked. I was able to have some water with me incase my mouth or throat felt dry. Once the interview was over, I was struggling to remember what just happened. It felt like I wasn’t even there. I know I was because I remember how nervous I was, but I don’t remember what was said, or anything.

That probably isn’t a good sign that I forgot what happened during the interview, but I know that I didn’t hesitate when I was asked a question. And I know that I asked a lot of questions that showed I was prepared and very interested in learning what I was interviewing for.

Major and Career Goals

My intended major connects with my skill set and career goals in different ways. Some of my skills that go hand in hand with my major, are I’m hardworking, caring, and dedicated to making kids feel as though the can be anything they want to be. This goes with my career goals because I intend to work with Walt Disney World and also with an organization called Give Kids the World, which involves working with kids who have terminal disease, the organizations is sort of like the Make A Wish Foundation.

Working with Disney World I know I’m going to have to always have an upbeat attitude and smile consistently, even when my face hurts. And I believe I will do well with that since it is, in a way, a job where you are constantly on stage. Since I am current in a performing sport where not only do I represent the University of Delaware, but I am to perform the show we were given for that season.

For Give Kids the World, I imagine I will be working closely with kids and their families, which I’m sure my intended major will help me acquire the skills for how I should talk to them and interact with them. Although my major does not teach me how to work in a medical setting, Give Kids the World is not all medical. It is a fun place for kids who have terminal disease to enjoy life the way it is suppose to be enjoyed.

Short and Long Term Goals

I don’t really have goals for my career.  The only goal I have is a long term goal, which is to give kids a reason to smile.  Working with Disney World, I will get the chance to see kids look at me and smile because they think that what I’m doing is magical because I show I am a part of the park.  And being a part of the park gives the impression that I am part of the magic that happens within the park.  That’s my only long term goal that I have.  And I only have one short term goal, which is to be accepted into being given the opportunity to work within  the parks and give that kind of joy to the kids that come in everyday of the year.

Dream Career

My dream career is to work with kids.  I don’t have any specifics on it yet, but that is what I would like to do with my life.  As I work towards that career, I plan to work with one of the biggest child interaction jobs there is, working at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  Working with Disney, I would like to be one of their princesses.  I don’t want to do it because of the dresses, or the hair and makeup, I want to be a Disney princess because kids look up to you.  I want to be one of the reasons a child smiles when they see me.  I want to be a role model for them.

I know it will not be an easy task to be a disney princess.  Disney World has very strict rules for what they want their princesses to look like and how to act.  Some of these rules include being a certain height, having a slender build of ones body, no visible tattoos, and being able to stand for long periods of time in the Florida heat.  I looked into how their auditions go and mainly they want the applicants to walk in with confidence and to not be shy when the audition starts.  Also for auditions, they ask that applicants wear comfortable clothing and sneakers for they may be asked to perform a small choreographed dance, mostly to see if the applicants could possibly fill a dancer/performer spot.

Even if I don’t get to be a Disney princess, I would still enjoy the opportunity to work with Disney World and interact with the children and their families that go to the parks everyday.  It would be a great experience to meet all the different kinds of people that work there and visit Disney World.  I can’t wait until the day I can say I am an employee at Walt Disney World.

Do what you love, or do what will get you a job?

I think it is better to study what you love, rather than do what will get you a job.  Yes, it is important to have a job, but wouldn’t it be better to have one in the field that you love?  Most people who get a job do it for the money.  But I don’t think the job is worth it unless you really enjoy what you’re doing.  Having a job just for the money can cause your life to seem like it’s moving in slow motion and not going anywhere because you don’t have your ideal/dream job.

I worked at a Papa Johns pizza restaurant for 3 years, and I didn’t enjoy it.  The job itself wasn’t too bad, I just was no longer happy with it.  Since my major is Human Services with a concentration in Administration and Family Policy, I am now on the hunt for a job that involves working with kids so that I can start gaining experience working with me.  I’ve always loved kids and being around them.  My plans after graduation in 2017 are to go work for Disney World, one of the biggest job interactions with kids anyone can get, and I can’t wait to become a part of it.

I don’t see how people can put themselves through a job that they don’t even like just because the pay is good.  Life isn’t all about money, a lot of people may see it that way, but that’s not how it should be.  I feel as though if you love something, and enjoy doing something specific, find a job that involves that or has something related to doing what you love.  There are jobs all over the world that cover every activity imaginable, it’s just a matter of how hard working one is in order to do what they love and make a career out of it.
