Do you want to get off campus? Want to explore the beautiful state of Delaware and all the cool things it has to offer? Milburn Orchards, Frightland, Longwood Gardens, White Clay and the Christiana Mall are all on my to-do list. Check them out!

1. Milburn Orchards ($$)

Milburn Orchards is a cute family farm that provides high quality fresh fruits and vegetables. Go here for pumpkin or apple picking, for the very fresh peaches and plums and delicious apple cider donuts. Their Orchard View Ice Cream and Lunch Deck is the perfect place to convene with friends and family and enjoy the fall weather and good food. For $10, you can go on a hayride, try to find your way out of a corn maze, and ride a tractor! Although Milburn Orchards is located in Elkton, Maryland it is only a 10 minute drive. I will definitely be there on the weekend of September 30 for Apple Harvest Weekend! http://www.milburnorchards.com

2. Frightland ($$)

Love haunted houses? Check out Frightland in Middletown. They have eight haunted attractions, a two mile haunted hayride and four indoor haunted houses. They have been named on the Top 10 Scariest Haunted Attractions by Forbes and the Hufftington Post. One ticket for four haunted attractions is $25, and all eight are $40. It is about 30 minutes from campus, but I’m sure the jumps and scares will be worth the drive. http://frightland.com

3. Longwood Gardens ($$$) Christmas Lights

The Longwood Gardens “Summer of Spectacle” presentation will be on until September 30 which features their Main Fountain Garden. This includes beautiful landscape design with art, innovative technology, and amazing illuminated fountain performances, usually accompanied by live music. This exhibition is $23. If you can’t make it to Longwood for this exhibition, I strongly encourage The Longwood Christmas. This exhibition showcases about six thousand seasonal plants, lit Christmas trees along with holiday music. The fountains and plants are the true features of this exhibition. This is from November 23rd to January 7th. Longwood Gardens is a 40 minute drive. http://longwoodgardens.org

4. Tax free shopping at the Christiana Mall

As a native Long Islander, clothes to food and everything in between are taxed. However in Delaware, nothing is taxed! It is so nice to get something for its actual price. Take advantage of tax free shopping at the Christiana Mall. The mall has everything from Abercrombie and Starbucks to Macy’s and Bose. Save money to buy gifts for family and friends! Christiana Mall is about 20 minutes from campus. https://www.christianamall.com

5. Take a hike in a Delaware State Park

There are 16 state parks in this small state. In my opinion, taking a walk and connecting to nature is the best way to think about something other than school for an hour or so. We have the great White Clay Creek right next to campus. There are trails to walk or bike on.  Every student should go to a Delaware State Park!
