Maintain Active Status

Honors College students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.20 in the first year to remain in the Honors College. First semester freshmen who fall below a 3.20 will be placed on probation and will be notified about their probationary status. They will not be allowed to take Honors courses if their GPA is below a 3.00. If their GPAs remain below a 3.20 at the end of the first year, students will be contacted and removed from the Honors College.

After the second year and in subsequent years, Honors College students must maintain a minimum of a 3.30 overall GPA to remain in the college. All Honors College students will be reviewed yearly after spring semester grades are posted. After the first year, any Honors student falling below a 3.30 GPA at the end of any year of study will be contacted and removed from the Honors College.

After the completion of the first year Honors requirements (12 cr. min), Honors College students must complete at least 3 credits of Honors coursework per academic year to remain in the Honors College. Graduate level coursework when applicable towards the Honors Degree may count towards the credit requirement to remain in the college.  Students will be reviewed at the end of each academic year after spring semester grades are posted. To earn an Honors Degree, students will likely take more than 3 credits each year. See this page to be able to view a list of the Honors courses you have completed or in which you are currently enrolled. Please note: this list is for advisement purposes and does not guarantee your completion of the General Honors Award or Honors Degree requirements.

Important note for first-semester Honors College students: Honors College students who are in their first semester will enroll in the next semester’s courses before grades for the first semester are posted. Students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement of 3.00 after grades are posted will lose their enrollment in any Honors courses.

Former Honors College students may apply for readmission once their GPAs improve to a 3.40 or higher and will be held to the new requirements for maintaining status in Honors regardless of entry date.

For students not in the Honors College

Full-time matriculated undergraduate University of Delaware students who are not in the Honors College must have completed at least 12 credits at the University and have a UD cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher to be eligible to enroll in Honors courses. Priority seating in Honors courses is always given to eligible Honors College students. Students not in the Honors College who meet these criteria may contact the UDHC Office at 831-1195 in mid-December for the spring semester and mid-May for the fall semester to request Honors courses if seats are available. Students with GPAs below a 3.0 are ineligible to enroll in Honors courses. Full-time, matriculated, first-semester freshmen not in the Honors College must have all final grades posted with a minimum GPA of 3.00 to request a seat in an open Honors course.
