International Applicants

The University of Delaware is an ideal place for international students. We invite you to take a pictorial tour of our beautiful campus in Newark, Delaware. Newark has a small town feel that is safe and welcoming, while at the same time sits in the middle of the major business hub of the East Coast. More than half of all Fortune 500 companies are incorporated in Delaware, and the business centers of New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., are all within a two-hour drive of campus.

As an international student in the Lerner College, you will not be alone. International students, representing 105 countries, comprise nearly 30% of the University’s graduate program and approximately 44% of the Lerner College Graduate student body. You will join a tapestry of students from around the world, including Colombia, Ecuador, Aruba, Austria, Bulgaria, Ireland, Turkey, Russia, India, Nepal, the People’s Republic of China, Singapore, Taiwan, Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, as well as many from across the United States. There are many international graduate student organizations to help you feel at home quickly.

As an international applicant, you must fulfill all the admission requirements for domestic students. In addition, you must also:
• Submit a TOEFL score or IELTS score (or apply through a conditional admission program)
• Provide translation and other supporting documents for transcripts
• Submit financial information
• Maintain health insurance

The University’s Office of Graduate Studies has detailed information regarding each of these requirements.

3 Year Degree Holders

Some programs consider applicants with 3 year degrees, please see the specific admission information for the program you are interested in.

TOEFL / IELTS Information

The typical applicant from a non-English speaking country has scored a 100 or greater on the Internet based TOEFL or a 7.5 or greater on the IELTS. The admission standards vary by program and these scores do not guarantee admission. Note that these scores are higher than the University’s requirement due to the significant amount of discussion and written English you will do in our graduate business programs.

Conditional Admission Information

If you need preparatory English language study before applying to a graduate program, you may be eligible for a conditional admission program, such as the MBA Conditional Admissions Program (CAP). Please see information about the specific program you are considering to determine if they have a Conditional Admissions Program. These programs are a joint effort of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and UD’s English Language Institute.
