Hammersmith—>Victoria—>somewhere out in England. Baseline Magazine is an international typography magazine directed by Hans Dieter Reichert. The environment here was different from any design, magazine or ad agency that I have experienced. It is quiet here. Nature combined with work creates a calm environment. He tells us we should relax sometimes. I enjoyed his outlook and relaxed nature. Design doesn’t have to be stressful.
“Photography is an essential part of visual communications” according to Gary Wallis, a photographer and professor at Central Saint Martins. Gary photographs mainly commercial fashion and portraits. University functions very differently over here for art students. In the beginning of the term, the students are briefed on an assignment, meet for an interim critique and then a final critique. Unlike in the States, students are mainly on their own timelines and meet much less as a whole. At CSM they teach “the why and the what.”
