Last Weeks in London

Submitted by Nina Kennedy on the 2014 spring semester study abroad program in London, England…

With only three weeks left in London, it was full speed ahead on getting work done, seeing everything that still needed to be seen, and just enjoying being in the city.  For me this week, it was definitely more about getting a lot of my final work done before I left for the weekend, this time to visit friends in Ireland!  I participated in an exchange program my senior year of high school on which I made Irish friends that I’m happy to still be in contact with today.  I left very early Thursday morning to get an early tube, to get to an early train that would get me to my early flight out of Stansted.  It was all worth it though and I had a wonderfully relaxing three days seeing my friends.  In all honesty, traveling and sightseeing is exhausting after 8 weekends of it, so I was more than happy to just have a calm last trip.  I got back Saturday night and realized that in two weeks from that point, I would be home- unbelievable!

This was the beginning of our second to last week in London, something none of us can really comprehend.  It has been the most amazing experience getting to live and learn and explore in London and this semester has been one of the best times of my life.  Luckily, this week was absolutely incredible weather-wise.  Of course I had classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday when it was the nicest, but walking to and from school and hanging out in Hyde Park during breaks was made all the better by the beautiful London weather.  The second half of the week was devoted to doing things that we still needed to do around the city.  On Friday, a few of us went to explore Greenwich a bit and though we did not actually pay to stand in two hemispheres at once, we still went to the top of the hill where it’s located and saw an amazing view of London. Greenwich Hill Nina Kennedy 14S London sm

We also went to Greenwich Market where there is a ton of food and other little shopping opportunities!  Saturday, we went to the mecca for food lovers: Borough Market.  It was (surprisingly) my first time at Borough Market and it definitely exceeded my expectations.  They offer a huge range of food, some prepared and some to take and make yourself.  I had grilled cheese and a smoothie, both were amazing!  Places like Greenwich and Borough Market are so bustling and busy and such a different experience to what I’m used to at home- I love it!
