Budapest, Hungary

Submitted by Jessy Buckter on the 2014 spring semester study abroad program in London, England…

This weekend, my roommates and I took our final weekend journey to Budapest, Hungary. I have heard amazing things about this place, so I was really excited. The first thing we did when we got there was eat because we were starving from our journey. We went for traditional Hungarian food, which consisted of goulash and paprika chicken. I love paprika so everything was so yummy. We then walked around for a bit just to take in the city. At night, we decided to go to thermal baths, which Hungary is famous for. It was a truly unique experience and unlike anything I have ever done before. We went into this huge, outdoor swimming pool afterwards, which was surrounded, by a beautiful building.

The next day, we went to the big market they have there. Every city I have been to has had a big market and each one is so unique. This one had food on the first floor, and shopping items on the second floor. For lunch, I got langos, which is a traditional Hungarian food. It is a deep fried flat bread, topped with sour cream and cheese. It was delicious.

We then proceeded to walk around the city  and explore. At night, everything is lit up and it looks truly beautiful. There are gorgeous buildings on hills, and everything is right along the river.  On Sunday, we had to catch an early flight home, so we didn’t have time to do much. Budapest was a great city. I am really grateful for the time I spent there, and every other city I had the pleasure of visiting this semester. It has been an amazing experience.
