About

What is GET?

The Global Enterprise Technology (GET) Minor enhances the education of undergraduate students in all majors across the University of Delaware in the use and deployment of computer systems used in global organizations. GET prepares students for successful careers in large-scale, technology-leveraged global operating environments. The GET curriculum focuses on five key areas:

  1. Enterprise systems knowledge and skills
  2. Large-scale software development and project management
  3. Data management and modeling
  4. Problem-solving skills
  5. Virtual teamwork, collaboration and communication

GET is a Very Flexible Program

Students from ALL MAJORS can enroll in the GET minor to understand these systems through coursework and hands-on experience. In the past, we have had students from communications and political science complete the program, as well as students from business, computer science, and engineering.

Students enrolled in the GET minor choose one of two options to complete the minor.  The first option is a paid six-month full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) internship (the Immersion Experience) or a 21 credit traditional minor. Students can complete either option while maintaining full-time student status and graduate on time.

We want you if:

  1. You would like to earn between $800-$1000 a week (full-time) while in college (a part-time option is also available).
  2. You have at least a 3.0 GPA.
  3. You want to gain work experience while going to college.
  4. You are interested in problem solving, technology and working in teams.

Why Should I Consider Enrolling in the GET Program?

To give yourself an advantage in the job market! Although GET systems are in nearly all companies, the majority of today’s college graduates are not prepared to work effectively in the multifaceted and large-scale integrated work environments demanded by the global marketplace. GET systems often require understanding hardware and software concepts that are fundamentally different than smaller business applications. GET teaches students how to answer the following questions:

  • How do you solve technology challenges in a large, complex and globally distributed environment?
  • How do you take a solution and scale it up exponentially in a global environment?
  • How do you communicate effectively with team members across geographies and time zones?
  • What are the challenges of processing millions of critical transactions each day?

Students who graduate with a GET minor currently work at some of the world’s most successful global companies in the financial, healthcare, insurance and entertainment fields. Students in the GET Immersion Experience are paid competitive salaries.

Graduate On Time

The GET program  is designed to be flexible, because different students have different needs. Students can choose between the GET Immersion Experience and traditional classroom options. With the GET Immersion Experience, students integrate coursework with a six-month on-site internship at a partner company. Students electing to take the traditional classroom approach can take a variety of classes, including cloud computing, mobile technology, and cybersecurity.

But I’m Not a Computer Science Major…

That’s okay! The GET program accepts students from every college and every major. The program is designed to introduce students to large-scale computer systems even though they have not taken a class in programming. The program also provides an opportunity for students with technology backgrounds to leverage their existing skills and develop new ones in a real-world context.

How Do I Apply?

Students should request the GET minor through UDSIS. Professor Mark Serva is the GET Curriculum Program Director, and he will review your application. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and should contact their academic advisor to review their courses and the GET program’s possible effect on their graduation date.

Students interested in the immersion option must apply to the minor no later than October prior to their desired Immersion Experience, and submit an application and be accepted by companies offering extended internships through the GET program.
