- SCOPE OF POLICYThis policy addresses the probationary period for all newly hired non-exempt employees during the first 90 calendar days of employment.
- DEFINITIONSProbationary period: A non-exempt employee’s first 90 calendar days of employment with the University wherein the employee is provided with instruction and guidance regarding the duties of the position and the supervisor is afforded an opportunity to observe and evaluate the employee’s performance/adaptability for continued employment.
- POLICY STATEMENTNon-exempt employees are subject to a 90 day probationary period in order for management to train and evaluate the employee. During the probationary period, non-exempt employees are not eligible for promotions or transfers and cannot participate in the grievance procedures outlined in Policy, Non-Exempt Grievance Procedures.
- POLICY STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESPrior to the end of the probationary period, the non-exempt employee’s supervisor will provide a written review to the employee using the 90-day evaluation form. Based on that written review, the non-exempt employee is either retained or separated from employment. At no time, either during the probationary period or after, is the at-will employment relationship between the University and the non-exempt employee altered in any way.
