What can I do for fun?
ELI students can take advantage of cultural activities that are set up by the ELI staff, such as day trips to New York City and Philadelphia and weekend excursions to the beach or ski resorts. Plus, students have a great deal of fun right here in the Newark area by attending American football games, ice skating, picnics, and more.
In addition, the ELI is a unit of the University of Delaware, so ELI students have nearly all the same opportunities as UD students! Exercise in the campus gym, participate in a student organization, take advantage of student discounts when shopping in local stores—and did we mention that Delaware does not charge sales tax on any purchase?
Finally, when it comes to fun right here at the ELI, our students never know what kind of funny ideas and activities that the ELI staff will come up with next!
Do I need health insurance?
University policy requires all foreign students to participate in the University medical insurance plan. This requirement is designed to help students avoid significant medical expenses in case of illness or injury while they are in the United States.
You will automatically be enrolled unless you produce proof of coverage (an insurance ID card) that shows beginning and expiration dates covering your entire session of study. The premiums will be included on your bill which is payable during ELI Orientation.
American insurance plans DO NOT cover illnesses or medical needs you have developed before coming here (e.g., diabetes, pregnancy, emphysema).
For more information, please view the ELI’s health insurance policy.
