Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is the ELI’s core program. Through its various tracks of study, IEP helps students to improve their English for general and professional purposes. Tracks of study include:

University Preparation Programs

The ELI offers a variety of programs to help students to prepare for undergraduate or graduate programs at a top American university.

UNDERGRADUATE

Academic Transitions (A.T.)NEW!

Description The new pathway program for students who have been conditionally-admitted to a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Delaware. Students can earn up to 24 university credits while improving their Academic English skills!
Who is this program for? International students who want to enroll in an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree program.

Edge-ELI: The Summer Pre-College Program

Description In this summer program for teenagers, international high school students can take one university course and one ESL course, along with special cultural activities and housing on campus with American roommates. It is a wonderful opportunity for the student to have an authentic American university experience!
Who is this program for? International high school students can take this program during the summer before they begin their final year of high school.

GRADUATE

Conditional Admissions Program (CAP)

Description The CAP program helps students to be accepted to a Master’s or PhD program at the University of Delaware (or one of our partner universities). CAP students are never required to take a TOEFL or IELTS exam!
Who is this program for? International students who want to enroll in an graduate (master’s or doctorate) degree program.

Pre-MBA

Description Preparation for success in an American MBA program–including case study analysis, GMAT/GRE Preparation, and more!
Who is this program for? International students who want to enroll in an MBA or any other graduate degree program that focuses on areas related to Business Administration (e.g., International Business, Finance, Marketing, etc.).

Accelerated University English Program (AUEP)

Description Super-intensive Academic English preparation for students who wish to attend an American university program.
Who is this program for? International students who want to pursue either an undergraduate or a graduate degree in the USA and who do not have a conditional admissions offer. Note: AUEP is also available to lower-level students who are on track for Academic Transitions or the Conditional Admissions Program.

TEST PREPARATION

IELTS Test Preparation

Description This part-time course teaches students strategies for taking the IELTS exam.
Who is this program for? Students who are already studying at the ELI or individuals who are already in the USA and who do not need the ELI to support them to obtain a student visa.

Professional Development Programs

Intensive English Program (IEP)

Description The IEP is the ELI’s core program. It offers several tracks of study, including a Business English curriculum for students in the high-intermediate and advanced levels.
Who is this program for? Anyone who wishes to improve their Business English communication skills, including improving their listening comprehension and pronunciation, learning how to write properly for business settings (including reports and email), improving presentation skills, and more.

Executive English Program (EEP)

Description Short-term intensive English program for professionals.
Who is this program for? Working professionals with limited time to study English (i.e., 3 weeks).

American Law and Legal English Institute (ALLEI)

Description Participants learn about the American Legal system while improving their Legal English communication skills in this short-term program.
Who is this program for? Legal professionals (e.g., lawyers, judges, paralegals, etc.) and law students who have completed at least 1-2 years of law school.

Delaware EFL Teacher Training Program (DEFT)

Description Pedagogical training for groups of EFL teachers in other countries. A wonderful professional development opportunity!
Who is this program for? Groups of professionals who are already qualifed English teachers in their home country and who wish to update their pedagogical skills.

Master’s in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA-TESL)

Description The ELI administers the University of Delaware’s Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA-TESL) program.
Who is this program for? Individuals who wish to become instructors or administrators in ESL programs.

Corporate Tutoring

Description Intensive and semi-intensive Business English instruction for short-term visiting international business professionals in Delaware.
Who is this program for? Professionals who are already in the Delaware area and who need assistance with developing and/or polishing their English skills for work.

ADULTS (AGE 17+)

Description The IEP is the ELI’s core program. It offers several tracks of study, including an English through American Culture curriculum for students in the high-intermediate and advanced levels. A variety of courses are offered, covering subjects like music, the news, literature, history, theatre/drama, film, and more!

TEENAGERS (AGE 15-16)

Language Adventure USA (LAUSA)

Description This summer program for teenagers includes a wonderful combination of courses in our English through American Culture track of study, as well as a variety of cultural activities, including excursions to regional tourist attractions, hikes, picnics, concerts, etc.
Who is this program for? Teenagers (age 15-16 years) who wish to come to the USA for 4-5 weeks to have an enriching cultural and language-learning experience.

Summer Language & Leadership Academy (SLLA)

Description Prepare for the rigors and culture of an American high school with this 5-week summer program! International students who plan to attend an American private school enroll in SLLA in order to develop academic skills, polish their English, and to adjust to American culture.
Who is this program for? Non-native English-speaking teenagers who have been accepted into an American private high school.

Part-time Courses

Evening Program

The ELI offers a semi-intensive Evening Program to members of our local community. The program includes 5 hours of courses per week, and each session is 9 weeks long. No minimum level of English is necessary to take this program.
