American Host Program

The English Language Institute (ELI) is looking for host families for international students studying English at the University of Delaware. Students do not live with host families (see the homestay program). Rather, host families get together with their students to share social occasions, holidays, and their friendship.

Host families serve as language coaches, cultural facilitators, supporters, and friends as their student adjusts to life in the United States. International students with host families demonstrate improved language skills and easier adjustment to American culture than those who have little contact with Americans.

Host families benefit as well as they learn about the student, his/her culture, knowledge, and interests, and many of our students have maintained contact with their American families long after they have returned to their countries.

If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a host family contact Karen Hale or Stephanie Dunham at info@eliahp.com.
