Michael Fields

Michael Fields has over thirty years’ experience in the field of English Language Teaching. This includes classroom teaching, mainly at the university level, as well as program coordination, teacher training, and textbook writing. Michael has taught in Washington, D.C. and New York, and spent over twenty-five years outside the United States, in places such as Germany, South Korea, Gabon, Sao Tome e Principe, Turkey, and Abu Dhabi.

Michael began teaching at the University of Delaware’s English Language Institute in 2012. In addition to teaching in the IEP, Michael has regularly coordinated special programs, welcoming teachers from Brazil and Panama for in-service teacher-training programs. He was one half of a team that designed the American Culture course, and has taught American Culture in a number of settings at the ELI He co-wrote the Graduate Cohort curriculum and taught in the Graduate Cohort program.

He currently teaches in the Academic Transitions Program, as well as in the MA TESL program. He has done research on extensive reading, and published on extensive reading, graduate engagement, and test development. He presents regularly at the IATEFL conference and the Conference for Classroom Assessment for Language Teachers. Michael is also the chair of the testing committee.
