Chris Pinkerton
Chris Pinkerton has had a lifelong interest in language and in the content and perspective of other cultures. In the 1980’s, after study in descriptive linguistics, he spent four years in Indonesia where among other duties he gathered language data from a number of preliterate cultures. He also performed a phonemic analysis of one of the Manusela dialects in Maluku, Indonesia.
Chris returned to Indonesia in 2000 to facilitate improvement of the English language skills and teaching processes of high-school English teachers in Yogyakarta. Among the Stateside venues where Chris has taught English are both the Gettysburg and York, PA campuses of Harrisburg Area Community College, and a summer program at Penn State, York.
Chris brings a litany of life experiences with him to the ELI classrooms. He has worked for NGO’s, a government agency, and has owned and operated his own business. He enjoys teaching business English, EAP, and higher-level general classes at the ELI. Chris has a bachelor’s degree in organizational management. His M.S.Ed. in TESOL is from Shenandoah University.
