ELI mourns the passing of two beloved tutors

February 6, 2018

Within the space of less than one week, ELI has lost two wonderful tutors: Paula Rusinko and Keila Brown.

Paula passed away on Monday, January 30th, following complications arising from a surgical procedure. Paula was a long-term ELI tutor and qualified speech pathologist who helped hundreds of students.  Despite her long and ongoing battle with cancer and other health issues, she continued to tutor until the end of December 2017.  Her indomitable spirit was a wonderful example of triumph over adversity, and her value to all of us is incalculable. A memorial service was held for Paula on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Kemblesville, Pennsylvania.

On February 2nd, another valued and dedicated tutor, Keila Brown, passed away from complications related to the flu and pneumonia. Keila had been living at The INNternationale, where she had been providing additional tutoring for ELI students residing there. Keila was a long-time tutor at the ELI who was dearly loved by her students and colleagues alike. In addition to tutoring for ELI, Keila was also a teacher in the New Castle County ESL program and an important contributor to ELI’s Women’s Support Group.

Arrangements are being made with her family and  there will be a funeral service on Saturday, February 10th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at Ogletown Church (316 Red Mill Rd, Newark DE 19713).
