On April 2, 2017, Professor Emeritus Enrico (Henry) L. Quarantelli passed away at the age of 92 at his home in Newark, DE. Professor Quarantelli was a co-founder of the Disaster Research Center - the world's oldest center focused on the social science and management aspects of disasters - as well as a pioneer in the field of disaster research. A number of panels and activities will take place over the next year to honor his many professional contributions.
On Friday, June 9th, his DRC family and the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware will host a Celebration of Life. Friends and former students will have an opportunity to share memories and reflections of his personal and professional impacts. The reception will take place from 2-4 pm at Daugherty Hall, Trabant University Center, 17 W. Main Street, Newark, DE . A public parking garage is adjacent to Trabant Center. A brief graveside interment with a military honor guard will precede the reception from 11-11:15 am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
We recommend that out-of-state attendees stay at the Courtyard Marriott at the University of Delaware. They offer a free shuttle service to Newark and have a bereavement rate for accommodations. Please call the hotel directly (+1-302-737-0900) to book your room.
Please fill out the following form to RSVP by June 1st so that the Disaster Research Center may plan accordingly.
