English through Stories focuses on practical skills. All of the listening materials, including films, monologues, and excepts from radio programs, were originally designed for native speakers.
The course involves fieldwork, consisting of problem solving activities and conversations with native speakers.
Students paraphrase and tell each other stories in class and create their own stories, usually based on their experiences, to tell each other. Note taking is part of some of these exercises. Students receive constructive feedback both from the teacher and their classmates.
There are also outcomes-based pronunciation lessons and a component of oral grammar.
Students have enjoyed this class very much in the past, and have noticed a lot of improvement in their listening and speaking.
