University of Delaware, Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
Center for Neutron Science / NIST Center for Neutron Research, Gaithersburg, MD.

  • Position: Computer Engineer/Computer Scientist
    Job #: 496990
    Brief description:
The College of Engineering is recruiting for a Computer Engineer/Computer Scientist in the UD Center for Neutron Science. This advertisement lists the specific tasks/responsibilities for the most junior-level position. The University of Delaware has won a competitive award of more than $7 million over a five-year period from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and will use it to develop the next generation of neutron scattering instrumentation through the creation of the UD Center for Neutron Science. Neutron scattering is a nanoscale measurement technique that is complementary to X-ray and light scattering as a means to probe the structure of materials. Since neutron scattering requires a high-flux neutron source, measurements are carried out at large national facilities such as the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) in Gaithersburg, MD. UD center staff will work on-site at the NCNR, helping design and build the next generation of neutron scattering instrumentation that will be used worldwide. The Computer Scientist position will reside at the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) in Gaithersburg, MD. The NCNR is a national user facility providing a source of intense beams of neutrons and maintaining and developing a suite of over 20 research instruments. The center serves more than 2000 scientists and engineers annually.
