Spring 2017 Chinese Classes Now Open for Registration

The Confucius Institute will continue offering Chinese language and culture classes to all UD affiliated faculty, professionals, staff and their spouses as well as alumni in Spring 2017. Non-credit classes or activities are open to the general public. Children under the age of 18 are not eligible to participate in this program unless specified otherwise.

All classes and activities are FREE but registration is REQUIRED.

Class size is limited to 20 people; registration will take place on a first-come, first-served basis. The Confucius Institute reserves the right to cancel any classes due to student shortage.

Fulbright Lecture on Feb. 25, 2016

In collaboration with the Institute of Global Studies, Dr. Xiaoyan Xiao, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute will present a lecture about her research on Chinese sign language and the Deaf community in China.

asl-logoIn this talk, Dr. Xiao, an expert in interpretation from Xiamen University, will share how her passion for language led her to research the status of the more than 20 million Deaf people in China. She’ll put into context the history of signed languages and will brief the audience on family life, education, and career opportunities for the Chinese Deaf community today. She will also discuss how her Fulbright residency at Gallaudet University led her to understand current problems, prospects, and the path forward for the largest Deaf community in the world.
