  1. Provides the participating organization the ability to attract and hire top Civil and Environmental Engineering students from UD.
  2. Allows the participating organization to be able to count on having their Co-op needs consistently fulfilled.
  3. Establishes a streamlined process where UD does the initial screening and sets up an efficient selection process to serve thriving engineering firms.
  4. Provides a mechanism for direct feedback to the Civil and Environmental department regarding the needs of the organization and on the performance of student interns in meeting their needs.
  5. Provides visibility on campus for the participating organization.
  6. Strengthens the relationship between the participating organization and UD.

Employer Provides:

  • Based on available positions, participate in the annual interview process and make every effort to provide a co-op opportunity to a UD Civil/Environmental engineering student;
  • provide a job description and/or marketing materials to promote the co-op opportunity;
  • provide work experiences directly related to the student’s field of study that increase in challenge and responsibility as the student progresses through their experiences; and
  • provide a company representative to serve as primary contact for the student to the University of Delaware’s co-op program coordinator.
  • appropriate supervision, mentorship and training for the student throughout the experience;
  • work with the co-op program coordinator to develop learning objectives, and guide the student to develop and achieve co-op learning objectives;
  • pay a wage that consistent with the program wage recommendations;
  • provide the student with the equivalent of 6-months of full-time employment;
  • evaluate the student’s performance and discuss the assessment with student to assist them in learning and growing as a professional;
  • complete student/program assessment and feedback forms;
