This week, WVUD’s Campus Voices spoke with communication professor Steve Mortenson. Mortenson teaches interpersonal communication at the University of Delaware and studies how communication creates the social reality we live in. He believes that studying interpersonal communication helps his students become stronger, more confident people.

We talked with Mortenson about how people deal with difficult emotions, how understanding interpersonal communication helps people interpret their own meanings of success, and how to have healthier political conversations with friends and family members.

About our Guest

Steve Mortenson is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Delaware. Mortenson earned his Ph.D. in communication at Purdue University in 1999 and started teaching at the University of Delaware in 2003. His studies focus on interpersonal communication. Mortenson has taught courses on persuasion, emotion and communication, and theories of communication. He won the UD Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012.
