About Us

We are exploring the specific rules and general paradigms underlying molecular design and self-assembly of unique biodegradable polymeric, peptidic, and organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Advanced materials are being constructed via the design and self-assembly of peptidic molecules taking advantage of the large tool box of inter/intramolecular interactions and molecular conformations available in peptide sequences. Ultimately, secondary structure phase transitions and intramolecular folding events sensitive to a desired stimuli (e.g. temperature, metal ion concentration, pH, light, megnetic field, mechanical shear) allow the production of materials whose structure, and consequent function, is sensitive to desired environmental cues.
