Elaine Stewart
Bio: Elaine is from Cranbury, NJ. She is a chemical engineering major, planning to graduate in 2018. She has conducted experiments to purify green fluorescent protein (GFP) using three-phase partitioning, gel filtration, hydrophobic interaction chromatography, and ion exchange chromatography. She researched the suitability of GFP as a noninvasive indicator of pH in living cells, and evaluated a proprietary assay to detect bisphenol A in thermal paper. She won awards from MIRTHE/NSF/Princeton Univ. for science projects on lead poisoning, hearing loss, and energy audits.
Research Interests: Elaine is especially interested in understanding how the structure and properties of novel materials may be used for biomedical applications.
Fun Facts: In her spare time, Elaine enjoys dancing, playing flute, and cooking. She is a Delaware Diplomat for the Institute for Global Studies, and an Honors Freshman Fellow.
