Lawn Mower Tune Up and Ag Day are Right Around the Corner!

April has always been a busy month for the Beta Upsilon Chapter. On April 7th,8th, and 9th we will be hosting our annual Lawn Mower Tune Up. During this event we clean the lawn mowers, change the oil, sharpen the blades, replace and spark plugs with new ones. Last year, Brothers and Alumni worked all weekend to assure we completed all 600 mowers we received. We will begin accepting lawn mowers at 2pm on Friday and the price per mower will be $46.

Ag Day, hosted by the University of Delaware College of Agricultural and Natural Resources, will be April 29th. AGR will be selling its famous chicken that was graciously donated by Perdue and Parker Hall, an AGR alumni from the Beta Zeta Chapter at Clemson University. We will also be selling drinks, chips, and our newest addition, Cole Slaw! Similar to previous years we will also be teaming up with UD’s Ag Ambassadors to run our hay rides around the farm so visitors can learn more about the college. Ag Day will run from 10am-4pm and we look forward to seeing you!

Honorary Initiation

The brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho-Beta Upsilon are pleased to announce the honorary initiation of Dr. Mark Reiger, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources! Dean Rieger was initiated Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 into the Beta Upsilon Chapter. He has been with the university since 2012 and has given our chapter continuous support since his arrival. Congratulation and welcome to Alpha Gamma Rho, Dean Rieger!

Countdown to Homecoming – 19 Days!

Homecoming for UD will be here soon! We ask that all alumni RSVP for our annual homecoming pig roast RSVP with our VNR Alumni Relations, Luke Gargiso. All it takes is just a quick email to lgargiso@udel.edu and you’re in! We hope to see you there.

Only two more rush events left!

Our first rush event and our Meet the Ag Greeks event went great! We met some great freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors for some ice cream, football, and volleyball. Our next event is tonight at Grotto’s at 8, and our final event is 111 East Park Place at 6. For more information on rush, please email Matt Bogdan at mbogy@udel.edu

Welcome Back!

School begins next week! For the brothers returning, welcome back, and for new freshman arriving, welcome home! We are excited to start the school year as we have many events planned already, upcoming chapter visits, and an exciting rush week coming up.

P.S… Homecoming is November 7th! Many of our alumni have already confirmed that they’ll be there, and we certainly have plenty of roast pig to eat!

Save the Dates for the Fall Semester

Alumni, Friends, Family, and Prospective Members:

We just wanted to let you know of a couple of event for this next semester that you will want to put on your calendars.

Our rush dates are as follows:

September 14 at 6:00 on the Harrington Turf

September 16 at 8:00 at Kildare’s on Main Street

September 21 at 6:00 at 111 East Park Place

Call Backs will be September 23 starting at 6:00 at 111 East Park Place. These rush events serve for you to get to know the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho. Prospective members can come to one or all three events to be considered for a call back interview. Bids will be sent out on September 24.

We are very excited to bring to campus a screening of the documentary Farmland on October 1st in the Trabant Theater. This film follows the lives of a couple different farmers across the country and to show that most farms are run by real people, not corporations which the public largely believes is true. Following the film, we will have a panel discussion of it with prominent agriculture professionals from the United States Government, the Delaware Department of Agriculture, and local farmers from all over Delaware. The cost of attendance is free and everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Finally, UD Homecoming is the weekend of November 7th as we take on the University of Albany Great Danes. Join us for our annual tailgate featuring our whole pig roast!

Be sure to catch up with what the brothers of the Beta Upsilon Chapter are up to this summer on our Facebook page. A link to it can be found to the right of this post.

That’s all for now. We’ll see you in the new semester!

AGR Updates: Month of April

Alumni, Friends, and Family:

We have a bunch of updates from this past month that we are excited to share with you!

First: We had our two annual fundraisers – LMTU and Ag Day – both of which were very successful! We had over 500 mowers come in to be tuned up and sold just under 800 pounds of chicken. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us at both of these events – we really appreciate it!

Second: Greek Week is this week! We have enjoyed our events with our pairings – Kappa Alpha Theta and Pi Kappa Phi – from ice cream to Zumba to writing letters to soldiers.

Third: As we continue to reestablish our relationship with Sigma Alpha, our sister sorority nationwide, we hosted a potluck barbecue on a Sunday before chapter. We had a great turnout and enjoyed some great food together.

Fourth: We are excited to announce that there will be a new event next semester with all three agricultural greeks next semester in an effort to broaden our recruitment efforts and establish more unity within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Date is TBD – keep an eye here on our website for further announcements!

Fifth: Continue to RSVP for the Alumni Appreciation dinner on May 16th. All alumni should have received an e-mail with details on this event. If you haven’t, be sure to send an e-mail to our VNR Alumni Relations, Luke Gargiso. You can reach him at lgargiso@udel.edu.

Thanks for reading and we hope you stay up to date with everything happening with the Beta Upsilon chapter!
