“Lessons of October: The Fate of Democracy and Socialism in the Age of Revolution and Counter-Revolution”
Ronald Grigor Suny is the William H. Sewell Jr. Distinguished University Professor of History at the University of Michigan, Emeritus Professor of Political Science and History at the University of Chicago, and Senior Researcher at the National Research University – Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Professor Suny is the author of numerous books, articles, and collections on Soviet history, the history of empires and nations, genocide, and Armenian history. Two of his most recent books include “They Can Live in the Desert But Nowhere Else:” A History of the Armenian Genocide (Princeton University Press, 2015) and Russia’s Empires (Oxford, 2016), with Valerie A. Kivelson. Professor Suny has held NEH and Guggenheim fellowships, as well as leadership positions in professional societies such as the Society for Armenian Studies and the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies. He is a world-renowned lecturer and frequent commentator for major newspapers and television news organizations.
